Day 100 North Island Complete!!!

Lambton Quay to Island Bay

Start 1pm

Finish 4.51pm

Distance 14km

Total 1,696km

Elevation approx 500m

Weather: Overcast

At 4.51pm today I completed walking the North Island!! It is very hard to comprehend.

The walk through Wellington to Island Bay, where there is a rock and plaque to signify the end of the North Island trail, was a little more arduous than expected, but lovely.

I had anticipated gentle walking along streets with many cafes to stop at. I should have looked at the map beforehand and remembered the requirement to climb over every possible hill. And Wellington is hilly! So we went over Mt Victoria, Mt Alfred and Mt Albert mostly through bush and parks, before descending to Island Bay.

Oriental Bay. Part of the trail.

There I asked a kind lady to take the obligatory photo of me and the rock. When I explained why she was astounded and asked if I had a blog which she is now signed up to. I wish I had asked her name as she was so lovely. It is fitting that right at the end I meet yet another wonderful person that reminds of all the amazing people I have met on the first half of this journey.

Onwards to the South Island!

The plaque. The distances are slightly out due to changes in the trail over the years since its inception.
